About the Day

The Play Centre Comes to Us

Kids Empire brings inflatables and active play equipment into the clinic and sets it up in our largest space. Children get the experience of a big indoor play centre without the noise, the crowds, or the unpredictability of an unfamiliar building.

That trade-off matters more than it might sound. A commercial play centre is often overwhelming enough that a child spends the whole visit regulating rather than playing. Here, the equipment is new but the room, the staff, and the routine are all familiar, so the novelty lands in the right place.

The two hours are run in rotations rather than a free-for-all. Small groups move between stations on a visual timer, which keeps the numbers manageable and turns every transition into a practice opportunity.

Skills We're Targeting

What This Builds

  • Turn-taking under excitement — waiting is easy when calm and hard when thrilled. This is where it actually gets tested.
  • Transitioning away from a preferred activity — the timer, not an adult, signals the end, which makes it far easier to accept.
  • Gross motor planning — climbing, balancing, crawling through, and judging your own body in space.
  • Proprioceptive input — deep pressure and heavy work that many children find genuinely organising.
  • Parallel and cooperative play — noticing peers, following them, and eventually inviting them.
How the Day Runs

Wednesday's Schedule

9:00 – 10:15 a.m.
Arrival and regular 1-on-1 sessions while the equipment is set up and safety-checked in the main room.
10:15 – 10:30 a.m.
Group rules review with visual supports: one at a time on the slide, feet first, shoes off, and what the timer sound means.
10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
First rotation. Small groups cycle through the inflatable, the obstacle course, and a calm floor-play station.
11:30 – 11:45 a.m.
Water break and a seated regulation activity, so nobody goes straight from maximum output to lunch.
11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Second rotation, with a longer free-play block at the end for children who are managing the group well.
12:30 – 3:00 p.m.
Lunch, quiet recovery time, then regular afternoon programming and pickup.
Included

What's Provided

  • All inflatable and active play equipment, delivered, installed, and supervised by the Kids Empire team.
  • Bright Path technicians stationed at every station in addition to the vendor's staff.
  • Visual timers, station cards, and a printed rotation schedule posted at child height.
  • A calm floor-play station in every rotation, for children who want the group without the intensity.
  • A staffed quiet room away from the noise, open the whole time.
  • Water and cups at the break station.
Please Note

Before Wednesday

  • Socks are required on the inflatables — no bare feet and no shoes. Please send a spare pair too.
  • Comfortable clothes. Leggings or shorts beat dresses and jeans for climbing.
  • Leave jewellery and hard hair clips at home, and empty pockets before climbing on.
  • A labelled water bottle makes the break far smoother than queuing at a cup station.
  • Tell us about any physical restrictions — recent injuries, seizure history, or anything that affects climbing and jumping. Send this to your BCBA before Wednesday.
  • Expect a tired child. Two hours of heavy motor work catches up with most children by the afternoon.

A Note on Noise

Inflatables run on continuous air blowers, which produce a constant low hum for the full two hours. For some children that steady background noise is easier than sudden sounds; for others it is the hardest part of the day. Ear defenders are available at the door, and the quiet room is far enough from the equipment that the hum is not audible. If noise is a known trigger for your child, mention it to their technician on Tuesday and we will plan their rotation accordingly.
